About Nakheel
Nakheel is the developer behind some of Dubai's most recognisable addresses. Construction of its first and most famous project, Palm Jumeirah, began in June 2001; today the island is home to more than 25,000 residents and around 30 hotels. In 2003 Nakheel announced The World, an archipelago of artificial islands off the Dubai coast.
In the 2000s Nakheel also created large mainland communities: Jumeirah Islands — 736 villas, each with a pool, arranged in 46 clusters and completed in 2006 — as well as Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Village Circle and Triangle, Jumeirah Heights, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan and International City, an 8 km² community launched in 2004 next to Dragon Mart.
Formerly a subsidiary of Dubai World, Nakheel became owned by the Government of Dubai after the restructuring announced in 2011. In March 2024 Nakheel and Meydan were merged into Dubai Holding.
A new chapter began in 2023 with the relaunch of Palm Jebel Ali, a palm-shaped island larger than Palm Jumeirah, followed by villa collections and Palm Central Private Residences. On Dubai Islands — the former Deira Islands, renamed in 2022 — Nakheel is developing Bay Grove Residences, Bay Villas and Rixos Dubai Islands, while Palm Jumeirah continues to receive new projects such as Como Residences, Palm Beach Towers and The Palm Crown.
